Sameera Gunatileka and
Vincent Nguy from Maryland
traveled to the Bay Area on
New Year’s Day hoping to
become part of the US team
to various continental
and/or BWF adult team
competition in 2009. They
placed second in the men’s
doubles event, right behind
the 2005 World Champions
Tony Gunawan and Howard

Malaythong: Olympian
Making a Difference in the Northeast |
Just barely four months after
moving to Marblehead, MA, to become the head coach of the Marblehead Youth
Badminton, Bob Malaythong is now a major influence in bringing up the enthusiasm
in badminton training as well as the skill and play level among the youth and
adults in Marblehead. In the recently concluded 2008 MidAtlantic Junior Open,
Bob led the Marblehead Juniors to win the Team Championship Trophy. [more...]

2008 Rochester Open
Badminton Tournament |
The 2008 Rochester
Open Badminton Tournament,
held October 25th
and 26th at the
University of Rochester
(Rochester, NY), drew its
largest crowd in the
tournament’s five year
history, with nearly 120
participants.
Badminton players from
across the Northeast United
States, including
Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
New Hampshire, New York City
and Upstate New York,
competed in the game-packed
two day tournament for
bragging rights and one of
42 trophies that were
awarded to winners and
finalists in every event.

Region 1 Hosts 2008 Junior
Nationals |
Marblehead Youth Badminton
in Massachusetts offered a scene of great excitement, enthusiasm and triumph as
it hosted this year’s Junior National Badminton Tournament. From June 28
through July 2, the tournament brought together 193 players from 11 states,
competing in every age group from under-9 to under-22. The East Region was well
represented, with 62 players from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and
