• Northeast Badminton Judy Devlin’s Fund Awardees Named

Six Northeast athletes have been awarded the Judy Devlin Fund for Excellence in Badminton based on their past year’s performances in regional and national competitions. Representing three of the thirteen states composing the Northeast Badminton Association (NEBA) region, these athletes represent exceptional leadership with outstanding tournament results. NEBA takes great pride in the junior development that our region has been enjoying in recent years. All five juniors qualified to compete in the USAB Junior National competition being held in Milwaukee, WI and in the Pan-Am Junior Badminton Championships being held in Salvadore, Brazil this summer. Sanchita Pandey and Ryan Zheng also qualified to compete in the World Junior Championships in Markham, Canada in November.

    The junior awardees are:
    Kai Chong – Acton, MA
    Sanchita Pandey – Sterling, VA
    Andrew Yuan – Paramus, NJ
    Annabelle Zhang – Wayland, MA
    Ryan Zheng – Natick, MA

    The adult awardee is:
    Nicholas Waller – Natick, MA

The Judy Devlin Fund for Excellence in Badminton was established by NEBA in 2012 with support from a small group of donors recognizing the daunting costs faced by athletes and their families who work hard to excel in this under-recognized, underfunded sport. The fund is named in honor of Judy Devlin who was born in Baltimore, MD. She trained with her father and went on to win 86 national and international titles including three Uber Cups for the USA in 1957, 1960 and 1963. It continues to be supported by private donations and accepts applications for athletes of all ages in the Northeast Region with demonstrated ability and opportunity to compete at the top national and international levels. Our most grateful thank you goes out to all of the people who donated to this fund! We are happy to announce that we raised more than $1,100 including the extremely generous tripling matching contribution from Boston Badminton! We ask for your continued support of the Fund and the Badminton athletes in the Northeast region.

The Northeast Badminton Association is the regional representative to USA Badminton, the national governing body for the sport of badminton as designated by the US Olympic Committee, and includes the District of Columbia as well as the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Virginia. The mission of NEBA is to provide encouragement and further the growth and development of the game of badminton for players of all ages and levels from juniors through seniors, from grassroots / recreational to world elite. NEBA was first organized in 1936 at the same time as the American Badminton Association, the forerunner of USA Badminton.
